Captain Howard Thompson

We know that this is the Chicago Boaters and Sailors Online web site, however this is a small Great Lakes Boating Community. Since we don't have the Chicago Bulls versus the Detroit Pistons to fight over anymore, let's just all get a long. We are happy to post this profile of one of our viewers from across the lake.
My interest in boating began back in the mid-1950s when my Dad took me on a 25 cent speedboat ride that use to operate on Belle Isle in Detroit. I remember the ride taking all of maybe 5 minutes but it was an experience that has lasted a life-time. After decades of sharing the boating experience with the families of friends who owned boats, standing on the shoreline watching the boat traffic moving up and down the Detroit River, after serving in the Navy with a tour in Vietnam, and suffering from many of life's ups and downs, I've finally managed to become the boater I've always dreamed of being.

Accomplished only with the help of my trusting wife. And now, we own our 4th (and final) boat which we call home during most of the summer. Our enjoyment includes dockside entertaining as well as local and extended cruising to many ports throughout the Michigan, Ohio and Ontario, Canada Great Lakes region. We have enjoyed the company of many friends and family aboard our boats and always look forward to meeting new boaters and listening to their experiences.
I'm proud to learn of Chicago Boaters and Sailors and to have become acquainted with them. Although our meeting came about under interesting circumstances, it just goes to show you that there's some good in everything we experience. I'm glad to be part of your fleet (as you are a part of ours) and please make the Detroit river-front a stop on your next visit. God Bless the Fleet.
